Forum Attitude? Respect? Rude?

Friday, August 24th, 2007

I am a member of at least 4 major tech forums in the country. I have been a part of the tech community even before the they all switched to the “forum” mode from the ever reliable Yahoo! Groups.

Although there seems to be progress in moving from an email list to a “forum-specific” website, there’s seems to be less progress in the attitude of most posters.

There are “moderated” forums, and there are public forums, and there are moderated-public forums. Yeah I know, it’s confusing. Try going into some of these forums and you’ll see what I mean. An innocent post can become an insulting discussion which can span several pages which can equate to several hours to days to months of unending exchange of righteousness.

What puzzles me, just like the “conversation” in this threadfrom a local user’s group, some posters would “virtually” insult (but most of them will just tell you that they’re just being “frank” and “straightforward”) the initial poster. I would say, rather than calling it “straightforward”, more like, RUDE!

Claiming they want “quality” postings, why then can’t they reply or answer politely. But with AIRHEADS who think they know everything just because he/she has some “authority” in the forum, I guess that’s too difficult to do.

What do you think?

Coastal Road accident in Las Pinas injures 21

INQUIRER.net Last updated 12:16pm (Mla time) 08/25/2007

MANILA, Philippines–Twenty-one people were hurt in a road accident involving two passenger jeepneys (minibuses) and a trailer truck along the Coastal Road in Las Pinas City early Saturday.

The trailer truck was allegedly cut off by a car before it hit the jeepneys on the north-bound lane at around 4:55 am, according to Manuel Cervantes of the Public Estate Authority Tollway.

One of the jeepneys was a total wreck, he added.

Several of the victims sustained major injuries, Cervantes said. *Thea Alberto*

Stuck in traffic too early in a saturday morning

Friday, August 24th, 2007

I was on my way to work, it’s a sluggish and dim saturday morning. Definitely, I will be late, because I woke up late. But that’s not the story. Along Coastal Road, there was this pile up that is just a few meters away from the entry point from Bacoor. Shit I say! What could be the reason? As the cars inch closer, right before the “former” waste transfer station, there was (I think because I just got a glimpse) an accident involving 2 jeepneys ( or was it just one separated into half ) all mangled up like aluminum foils after food was served in a hungry crowd.

But after it, the drive was soooo smooth! Hay naku, it’s UZI at work, drivers who had nothing to do, simply slowed down at the area and checked out the scene. As if, by doing so, they are helping the driver or whoever was inside those vehicles. That’s INCONSIDERATION at work! And at a saturday morning!

Of Pedicabs and Idiocracy

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Pedicabs are definitely helpful, especially if it’s in it’s place. But it’s more helpful in making more people become lazy! Instead of walking (which as far as I can remember is very good to one’s health), people nowadays would rather ride. No wonder there is increasing number of incidences of hypertension in the younger generations as was before. Sedentary lifestyle is what I always associate with high blood pressure and hypercholesterolemia. See what a stupid machine can do! Speaking of machines, these pedicabs have evolved into gas-powered mechanized, wheeled contraptions. And yet the government is not doing anything about it. People who drive these “kuliglig” doesn’t have a driver’s license and yet, you see them on the street. Oh, wait, in the MIDDLE OF THE STREET! Trying to outrun cars, jeeps, vans, and even buses for goodness sake!

Let’s go back to the pedicab. Yup, laziness, when instead of getting a good education, ergo a good paying job, a kid would be satisfied with his “sidecar” and pedal his way to “success”, so it seems. For me, perhaps death. I almost hit one today, on my way home, driven by a kid, around 11 years old. Why did I almost hit him, well, he was trying to swerve from the left side of the road to the right and suddenly changed lanes trying to avoid a jeepney, when I’m at the other side of this scene! Good thing there was no car on the other side of my car or I am not typing this blog at this time. Or perhaps, I’m writing this blog, from my smartphone in a police station, filing charges against someone who is not supposed to be driving a machine that is not supposed to be on the middle of the street. That is, of course, if that kid is still alive.

Newspaper Fingerprints

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I like reading the news. It keeps me updated with current events. Every morning, while having milk and before breakfast and doing anything at all, I fire up my computer and read all the local Net versions of the major broadsheets. It’s the same reason why I don’t subscribe to newspapers anymore. What for? I’m getting the same news articles and the added bonus of the Breaking news from the monthly bill that I get from my ISP. But whenever I have the chance, even though I already know 80% of the contents, I still read the physical broadsheets. My reason is simple, there are stuff on the physical newspaper that is not on the digital version, and those are the ads! Hahahaha I know, shallow reason, but still it’s a reason.

Now, I get all too fussed up whenever I get to read these newspapers then use my notebook afterwards, I get fingerprints all over the thing. You see, I have an iBook, and it comes only in white.

Irresponsible Government and School Officials

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I don’t know if bureaucracy is at fault or is it pure stupidity in the late declarations of no classes yesterday. Perhaps both the CHED and school officials may be considering other factors but, isn’t it that the student’s welfare should go first before anything else.

With regards to yesterday, one doesn’t need to have a PhD to deduce that there will DEFINITELY flooded areas because it was RAINING VERY HARD all over the place. And yet, maybe because it was raining that government officials woke up late and the announcement was made when the students are already on their way to school (or perhaps they all thought that the students all live beside the school so no need to worry). How about CHED, no, these are college students, they can handle walking thru flooded waters, not like high school and elementary students. College students are indestructible that they can wither flu and leptospirosis and can walk 10 kilometers in flooded water or better yet, college students would love it if they are stranded. STUPID! And I’m directing this to CHED Chairman PUNO! You’re such and asshole in letting the students go to school yesterday!

And speaking of yesterday, me together with some other faculty members at UE, were wondering what went wrong, in the first place, there were only a handful of students that went to class, in fact my 40 plus student class, only 7 went in, and I would bet this was mirrored in all the colleges in that university. Even as the hours passed, not even half was added to the numbers of my class and yet, the university declared a no class note in 3pm! Read that, 3pm yeah, that’s how sensitive they are to the student’s welfare. It’s just like saying ok, we’re not an ass as you thought of us, we are sending you home at 3pm. Ahm HELLOOOOOO! That’s more than 7 hours late of a declaration, the faculty did not lecture because not even half of the half of the class was present, and the students, just wasted money and effort to go to class for NOTHING! And then, they will now have to worry on how to get home.

Tsk tsk tsk every year the rainy season comes, and every year, STUPID people are left to decide the faith of millions.

Undeniably Slow or Lazy?

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

When ever I am challenged by something or someone, I would make sure that I won’t make the mistake the 2nd time. I don’t know if it’s the present generation or me, but there’s this class of mine who seem not too interested in passing the subject. I gave them a practical exam today and their scores were uhm, undesireable. Take note, these are a series of tests, only a few minutes apart. They consistently getting the same score, very few improvements. I wish them lots of luck though, because by the looks of it, most of them aren’t going to make it.

FINALLY! Gmail on my phone

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

It’s been months since I got my phone but since then I haven’t had the fortune to figure out how to make Gmail work with the phone’s email client. Tonight, while surfing, saw this blogsite that gave another twist in the settings that I have been trying before. Lo and behold, IT WORKED!

Now, the next thing that I’m going to worry is, how much will this cost me in data rates. Perhaps I would experiment on the always on PUSH EMAIL (technically it’s pull email), if it’s going to burn a hole in my pocket then maybe I’ll just use it for important matters such as blogging! nyahahahaha
