I am a DOCTOR!

DOCTOR
a very strong title, yup, a title, something that someone uses to
identify his/her status professionaly. For me, it has been a dream to
be called as such, and, well, I think one of my dreams has been
fulfilled.

Yes, it’s very obvious, I am a DOCTOR, a DOCTOR OF MEDICINE at that. So
what, some of you might say, big deal! I understand you, like how I try
to understand some of the people I know, and most of them, yup, as you
have guessed, DOCTORS as well. What made me write this article is the
notion that one is NOT a DOCTOR until he/she passes the BOARD
EXAMINATION. WELL I BEG TO DISAGREE! One becomes a DOCTOR when he/she
graduates and accepts the DIPLOMA that bares the title DOCTOR OF
MEDICINE. Yup, DOCTOR OF MEDICINE! One doesn’t need to pass any
examination after receiving his/her diploma to be called DOCTOR.

I am saddened by the fact that most DOCTORS don’t consider the fact
that graduates of MEDICAL SCHOOL are and can be called DOCTORS already.
I don’t know if it’s the length of time they spent studying MEDICINE or
the high that they got from passing the BOARD EXAMINATION that gave
them the AIRHEAD and ASSHOLE mark right smack on the forehead.

I hate it when people would ignore your title just because you have not
taken the board examinations yet. It is understandable that ordinary
joes and janes when they think this way, heck, they are not well
informed, on how the WORLD OF DOCTORS work, but to come from a "fellow"
DOCTOR is unthinkable. Don’t these colleagues of ours understand that
the BOARD EXAMINATION is a test for a DOCTOR OF MEDICINE to see if
he/she is capable of being issued a LICENSE TO PRACTICE MEDICINE? I
guess, if I am to understand it carefully, these people then, shouldn’t
have passed their exam for not understanding their MEDICAL
JURISPRUDENCE and MEDICAL ETHICS!

Shame of these so-called "collegues" of us for looking down on our
brothers and sisters that are still out there, clinging on to mere
hope, that one of these days, they will become licensed physicians. How
ironic that these so-called "colleagues" of us, depend how they look at
un-licensed DOCTORS as second-class professionals, and that believing
that the PRC PHYSICIAN’S BOARD EXAMINATION is the true gauge on when
and if a LICENSE TO PRACTICE should be given to a DOCTOR? I would
rather keep on understanding than to flatly accept this as GOSPEL
TRUTH!

How would one credit and give respect to these so-called BOARD OF
EXAMINERS when one doesn’t know what is going on in their minds. What
is the basis then of MEDICAL SCHOOLS on what to teach, if the questions
given during the LICENSING EXAMINATION are questions meant for DOCTORS
who are into SPECIALTY TRAINING. Why don’t they just stick to the
basics, the basics which the MEDICAL SCHOOLS are teaching, the basics
which one will use when we go into private practice. It is in the
MEDICAL ETHICS that says, one should not entertain a case that is
beyond one’s training and knowledge. So, if we are to be given
questions in the board exams other than those thought by MEDICAL
SCHOOLS as basic MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE, then, why do we need SPECIALISTS?

Doesn’t these "colleagues" of ours remember, that once in their career,
in their lifetime, they too were in a situation where your emotional
need is in grave danger? How can they ignore this fact? Lest they
remind me if the DIPLOMA that I have in my room means different from
the DIPLOMA that they have, laminated in a wooden board?
