The RESIGNATION

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Last Monday, I’ve officially filed my resignation letter from People Support (Phils.) Inc. The company that paid me for 3 months. Yesterday, a representative from the HR Department called me up asking for the reason why I resigned and if I would still consider.

Why did I resign? Well, I was hired for my technical knowledge, and from the beginning, I told the HR personnel that I am not good in sales, no experience, nothing at all. If they put me in sales, I will totally be useless in that account. And so, I was put in a technical account. An account that deals with Domain Name registration and anything attached to it. Training was fun, met a lot of interesting people and started to like the company and appreciated the value of work. After training, I learned that for a company to be productive, it should maintain the quality of work it’s people are doing. I then accepted this concept, that we will continuously evaluated regarding our performance. But I was dismayed and shocked to learn that bigger points were given to the UPSELL part (selling other services other than what the customer already have) than to the satisfaction of the customer. This I did not understand at first, but learned to accept the fact after a while. During these trying times, all of my evaluation scores are way too low to get a passing score. Then to add to it, my scores were added to my team’s matrix and naturally, pulled down the team’s overall performance. And during these times, I was already contemplating of resigning, of quiting, which I’ve never done in all my life. I’ve always this persistent person who almost always sees a light at the end of each tunnel in my life. But this time, something is making me quit. It’s the thought of going to work everynight knowing that with every call, I have to force myself to sell something to the caller. So, when the right opportunity came, I quickly grabbed it and held on to it. Now, I am happy with what I’m doing, though I can’t say I wasn’t happy with my Call Center Stint. I was ecstatic with it. Imagine, me in a corporate world? The people I’ve been with in this idustry where one of the best people around. They’re good in what they do! They all get my respect and I’m ready to help them anytime.

And so, I told all these to the HR personnel. He asked me why not just change accounts, so I asked him back if there’s any account in People Support that doesn’t have UPSELL in it’s profile and he said none. Then It would be very hard for me to go back. Anyways, this week I’ll be working on my clearance so I could get my last pay from such a wonderful company.

I Saw a SEGWAY…in RECTO!

Segway
I was on my way to the bank lunchtime today to check on my payroll account, and as I was walking out the university gate, I saw a familiar thing, looking at it closely, I was really dumb-struck to realize that it was a SEGWAY. You know, that "revolutionizing" thing. That thing that looks like a platform with wheels and moves mimicking the human movement and balance. Anyways, what really was unbelievable for me was seeing it here in the Philippines, much more in RECTO. They were being used by non other than promotion people from Unilever Philippines distributing Cream Silk sachets samples. There were 4 of these amazing things being used only for promotional gimik. Man, UNILEVER sure has the bucks to spare for these things huh?!

That was QUICK!

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I had my driver’s license renewed today and boy was it quick. Before, I always renew my license in an LTO office here in Bacoor, Cavite. But after realizing that the process there took way too much of my time, then I decided to check out the New Driver’s License Renewal offices in other sites. This one, I went to the satellite office in Metro Mall in Pasay City. I took the opportunity since I was having my car serviced for it’s regular maintenance check at TOYOTA Manila Bay. At around 9:15am I went and ask for info regarding license renewal and right away the guy asked for my driver’s license and processed it. He then asked me to have my "medical exam" and drug test right at the back of the stall. When all the "medical exam" is done, I went back and gave them the results and the forms, in a little less then 5 minutes, my name was called, had my dicigtal picture taken and in less than 30mins, I got my Driver’s License Plastic card. No fuss and pretty much thankful for the service with a smile of those manning the booth.

What a Week

Friday, June 17th, 2005

This is some week for me!

For some time now, I’ve been contemplating of quitting my call center job. Why you might ask? Well, the top most reason is I WAS SOOOO BORED with it. I’ll be posting in detail a separate blog for that one later on. Anywasy, so there I was thinking of resigning, just waiting for the right time. Some time last week, on my way to the call center work, I decided to text a friend of mine whom I just met a few months back. After a few minutes, she replied with a text asking me if I would be interested to teach for a College of Dentistry of a University in the U-Belt. Ana-Histo was the vacant subject and I was supposed to teach the whole day for Wednesday and Friday only. I told her, why not. That was a Thursday, and she told me she’ll text me the next day, Friday, if the slot was still available. Friday morning came, on my way home from work (yeah I took the graveyard shift in that call center), she texted me and asked if I could go to the school for an interview or perhaps just call the school that day to confirm or to make an appointment with the Associate Dean. Yup, I called up the School that same day and I was asked to report on Tuesday, since Monday was a holiday. Tuesday came and straight from work, I went to the school and the next day I was already loaded with Anatomy-Histology-Physiology subject for Dentistry Students.

Just yesterday, I got my Temporary Authority to Teach for the whole semester! Whew! Nice huh?!

The Recent Announcements of PBXVI

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

About a week ago, on my way home (yeah, I don’t know if you’ve noticed it, most of my thoughts comes out on my way home, this is because, it is at this time where I am excited to sleep and be with my family), I was listening to Chico and Delamar on RX93.1, and they had a news regarding Pope Benedict’ XVI latest pronouncements deploring same sex marriages, and how the Church will not bow down to pressures that it should be flexible and change with time.

"relativism recognizes no definitive values and its ultimate goal consists of individual ego and desires."
"tendency of the culture to challenge the unique character and the mission of the family based on a man and a woman" — Pope Benedict XVI

I am not against Gay people, it’s what they want and who they are, but what I’m against is the fact that they want the Church to accept what they want. You see, the Church is not just somebody whom they could impose on whatever these people want. This is the Church where, others have tried to topple down all through the centuries but have failed. This is the Church where the foundation is bigger than Earth itself. And to think that having a new Pope, these people thought they would get some sort of leeway? Hehehe, the Holy Spirit has It’s ways, and now that Pope Benedict XVI is on the helm, I pity those who undermine his capabilities. Just imagine be called the Rotweiler (I hope I got the spelling right) of JP II. Imagine what he can do!

Regarding the same matter, I pity those who are not able to understand what his pronouncements mean or should I say, refuse to understand. There is this office mate of mine, who says she doesn’t like PB XVI because of this recent pronouncements of his. She said the PB XVI has disregarded the works of JP II for 25 years. She said PB XVI doesn’t like Jews (fortunately for her I wasn’t in the mood to argue), but nothing in the pronouncements says that Jews are not to like, in fact, from what I’ve read, it doesn’t say anything not liking anybody.

Finally…a voice from the Church

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

With the recent events involving the San Carlos Seminary, a small voice from the Church is a sound of relief. I will admit, that I am hesitant to believe a person like Samuel Ong. A self-proclaimed "righteous" person wanting to change the country. Yeah right! But all that aside, I was getting worried that we haven’t heard from the Church ever since this whole thing went out. Finally, the Church authorities have issued a statement which perhaps, like most people, I was waiting for.

I was worried because, being a Catholic, and having grown up with Dominican priests, it would have been impossible for the Church to believe such accusations and back up a shady character like Samuel Ong. It’s a pity though that some high-ranking Church authorities, including Bishops, choose to still listen and agree with this person has to say. But then again, I am confident that this won’t go un-noticed, especially that Pope Benedict XVI is on the helm. Whatch out and see hehehe.

The Man in the Corner

Friday, June 10th, 2005

At the corner of Ayala Ave. and Paseo de Roxas is the Insular Life Building. It is here that I see this man, and old man probably around 70 years old. You would know that he’s a "bum" since he’s always at that area and in the mornings, you’ll see him selling newspapers. Every night, on my way to work, I always see him either preparing his sleeping area or already asleep. So typically, he’s our friendly neighborhood street person (or sidewalk person for that matter). Anyways, what makes me wonder is that, he is always well-dressed for someone like him. More often than not, I see people like him in old, dirty, soiled clothes. But this one is different, he’s always wearing a collared shirt, slacks and I’ve yet to see him without any socks. If you’re going to see him, you’ll really be amused at how he can maintain his looks. Makes me think as well, he we are working in a high-rise building, in the Business District, airconditioned all the time, but you won’t see us wearing a business attire, and here he is, he’s worth is probably almost none, but still stays looking good.

Praying……

Here I am, still praying that something next week will push through and that I hopefully would not encounter any hitches along the way.

I WANT MORE Part 2

THE HUMAN NATURE Part 2

I decided to do a follow-up Blog on the Human Nature Blog because I had a talk with my office-mates this morning (we were able to talk for sometime because there was an unusual low call volume).

We were talking about our "future" with this work. We were one in saying that, well, it’s not as bright as we thought it would be. Career growth is very minimal. But I thought it over and said to myself, well, these people are complaining that they won’t prosper career-wise in this industry, heck, they have to be thankful in the first place that they have a job. Other unluucky individuals out there don’t even have a job, or if they are lucky enough, the pay is not as good as what these people in the call centers are making. Then the conversation went to comparing other call centers with each other, you know, the pros and cons of it.

Then again, it made me think, it is very hard to satisfy one’s needs. As for me, I say, whatever feels good for you, then do it. Just as long as it would not do harm to others, then go for it.
